· What is a Network?:

a network is a collection of computers that are conectet to share information.
  • Hardware Needed to create a Network

  1. Workstation:is a hight- end microcomputer designed for technical applications.

  2. Network card:is an expansion card wich instals into a computer and enables that computer to connect to a local area network .

  3. Serve:is a computer desicned to process requets and deliver data.

  4. Hub:is used in a network to conect all the computers together.

  • Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages

Disadvantages

· Share Resources (Printers, storage drives…)

· Communicate easily (homework teachers -> students,

o Chat, social networks, email…)

· Workstations not so full (files on file server)

· Once network is setup it’s cheap to communicate

· Collaborative work

o Wikis, Blogs…

· Not have to move to do certain things (Online banking…)

· If not working -> can’t do work, can’t access your files.

· Technical expertise to install / manage

· Viruses spread easily

· It can get overloaded and work slowly

· Can be expensive to setup / maintain

· Fault in network -> loss of user data

network security :

username & pasword= name that identifies you user of net and a pasword is something that checks your indentity.

firewall= blocks othre people to enter in you pages and document.

anti virus software = comunication to and from networks.
